Career Fair-Scholarship Award- Back to School Bash( After Summary Report)

by ida washington on 08/07/14

On July 26, 2014 The LW Legacy Fund held a Career Fair-Scholarship Award-Back to School Bash at Trenholm Road Park.  This event was held from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  It was a long day, but we got a lot accomplished.  We had three inspiring speakers.  Mr. Brad Washington (Junior Advisory member) started the Career Fair off with a very inspiring speech about how he happened into his career as a Program Specialist for the Boys and Girls Club of the Midland, followed by Ms. Autumn Brantley a school teacher for Fairfield County.  Ms. Brantley spoke on how she founded herself unprepared for her class and vowed never to let that happen again.  Last to speak was Evangelistic Monisha Johnson.  Evangelistic Johnson was soft spoken, but very compelling on the need to give back to our community.   After wrapping up the Career Fair, we went directly into Scholarship Awards ceremony.  The LW Legacy Fund awarded certificates to the following high school graduates:  Joshua Pough, Jaliyah Howell and Wachovia Graham.  The first $500.00 payment of their $2000 scholarship award will be mailed to their designated colleges during the Month of August.   Lastly we headed over to our shelter at the park where we gave out pre-packaged school supplies and served grilled hot dogs, donuts, mixed fruit and lemonade.  Time really flew by as we fellowshipped with one another and parks participant.  We gave out over 50 prepackaged bags of school supplies.  Special thanks to Mrs. Lou Ann Pyatt and Mr. DD Washington who braved the heat to make sure our Back to School Bash was a success!  Also special thanks to Ms. Felicia Robinson for the generous donation of the school supplies and thanks to Ms. Caroline Pyatt for helping to host the Career Fair.
